Welcome! I am Kate Kager and I am glad you're here!
A long and circuitous path led me to the Massage and Bodywork Therapy profession. After more than a decade in public school systems, working as both a teacher and an administrator, I spent many years at home raising three children. I have lived in Carrboro since 1998, and know and love this community well.
Through many years of long distance running, regular, exceptional body work helped me run safely and comfortably, recover quickly and completely from occasional injuries, and heal after two foot surgeries. This is what ultimately led me to study massage and bodywork. I am fascinated by the human body and the study of anatomy and am committed to helping clients find ease in their bodies.
Shortly after my eldest child started college, I went back to school. I attended the esteemed Body Therapy Institute, in Silk Hope, NC. During that time, I did a school-sponsored externship at the North Carolina Cancer Hospital. This led to my first job as a therapist, working closely with patients in the infusion clinic, the bone marrow transplant unit, home visits when patients were recovering from surgery and/or treatment, and on some occasions offering treatment to patients in hospice settings at the end of life. This work was incredibly humbling, deeply rewarding on many levels and continues to inform and inspire my work.
In addition to the oncology work, I was practicing in a space in Carrboro, shared with three other therapists. As my practice grew, scheduling in a shared space became difficult and I knew it was time to branch out. In early 2018, that's what I did. After living in Carrboro for more than twenty years, I was thrilled to be starting a business in this community I call home.
Since opening the practice, I have worked with hundreds of clients - ages 10 up to 86! - and have learned and grown as a therapist. I work closely with, and get many referrals from, local orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, personal trainers, chiropractors and therapists. Throughout thousands of sessions, I have supported clients undergoing cancer treatment, joint replacement (knees, shoulders, hips and ankles!), overuse injuries, training for US Olympic teams, various other athletic performance and recovery issues, TMJ dysfunction, pain management, stress reduction, trauma work and lymphatic drainage.
I have the great fortune of having access to extremely knowledgeable and talented teachers, and I feel grateful that I am able to continue to expand my depth and breadth of skills by continuing to learn and practice under their guidance and leadership. The investment in time and energy serves all of us well. While I love to learn and definitely enjoy the continuing education, ultimately, I do this for my clients… so that I can serve in efficient and effective ways, making our sessions together productive, relaxing and beneficial.
I look forward to working with you.
